THE INFANTRY CAMPS.
GENERAL GODLEY’S REPORT. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 23. The Minister of Defence, Sir Joseph Ward, has received the following telegram from General Godley, commander of the forces :—“ The first infantry camps in the dominion under the new scheme have ' been most successful. Colonel Heard, who has been north, -reports that the spirit shown and instruction gained at the camp of the Sixth .Hauraki" Regiment was all that could bo desired, and I have the same to roport of the Fourth Otago Regiment here. In spite, of very bad weather tho new men have all taken tho greatest- interest in the work, and finished up their week’s soldiering by marching fifteen miles into Dunedin without casualties in a style which would have done credit to a regular battalion. T think it would have a very good effect if you would make this public.”
