SPORTS GATHERINGS.
LITTLE RIVER. The Little Riv'or Athletic Sports Club held its annual sports on the old Little River Racecourse on Boxing Day. The weather was most disappointing, and occasional showers of rain were responsible for the small attendance. The afternoon w«* brighter. The excursion train from Christchurch was fairly well filled with holidaymakeri and competitors, and, despite the unfavourable conditions, the sports went off suxeasfuHy. The Stanmore Band supplied a programme of music. > H. P. Giddens won the medal for most points in athletic events, and J. Henry Mr W. F. Parkinson’s cup for most points in cycling events. Sports under the auspices of the Cheviot Athletic and Cycling Club were held at Cheviot on Tuesday, and in spite of the threatening weather the people turned out in a fair number.
