The eighth internrovir.cial match between Otago and Canterbury was played at Lancaster Parle yesterday in the presence of a large crowd or spectators, lire ground was hard and dry, the surface being true and fast, causing tho ball to frequently race the fastest forwards. lho weather conditions were perfect, Hie- following are the names of the players:— ' >

Otago (blue): —Goal-keeper, F. L. A. Gotz; backs, W. Smart and A. Moxhan; halves, \\ r . Gamierinan, A. A. Fenwick and Id. S. Adams; ionvards, A. I'itt, it. Pi. Calder P. Foote, JR Drake and J. J. Pauli. Canterbury (red and black): —Goalkeeper, C. Bellamy; backs, t\. Cliambers and G. Siieiwood; halves, Ft. '1 hr op, D. Snell and W. Rodgers; forwards, It. Rankin, \Y. Harrington, T. Gelletly, J. Howison and W. Cliapple. Following the initial bully Harringtoa and riowison were quickly in Otago territory, Smart hit to liail'-way and out. Chappie and Gellctly returned, but Fenwick stopped their progress at the quarter distance. An Otago rush, in which Calder and Foote were prominent, took play to Canterbury territory, but_ Sherwood sent the leather along to his forwards again. Gelletly, Harrington and Howison, by nice passing, reached Otago's circle, where Harrington shot the first goal. Canterbury one, Otago nil. Soon after resuming Pauli, Drake and Foote were set going by Adams, and a smart invasion of the local circle was well cleared by Bellamy. Tile Canterbury goal-keeper kicked to Sherwood, who hit out. Harrington passed to Chappie, who missed, and. Otago’s right attack secured. Fitt and Calder worked piay to Canterbury's quarters. Sherwood stopped further progress and the Canterbury forwards were again in Otago’s circle. Moxhan hit well up the field. Adams and Fenwick were instrumental in instituting a .nice passing rush by the visitors’ vanguard, but off-side play bv Pauli spoilt their chance. Snell secured from the resultant free hit and set his forwards going. , A nice centre by Rankin was mishit by Gotz, who conceded a corner. The pressure on Otago’s circle continued until relieved by Howison being off-side. Adams by good stick work got the ball through to his forwards, but one of the visiting front rank “carried” in the circle. From the free hit Chappie and Howison attacked, but Smart stopped., the rush. Adams hit too hard, a twenty-five resulting. Rodgers gave sticks near his circle and from the free hit Drake sent in a hot shot, which was cleverly stoj>ped by Bellamy. The Canterbury half line was repeatedly noticeable for good stick play. A fast run by the local forwards to Otago’s circle was countered by Fenwick, who drove the ball the length of the ground and out at the corner flag. Gelletly, Harrington and Howison went back to Otago circle, whore the last-named collided with the goal-keeper, sustaining a broken nose. Hulbert replaced Howison in the bomo team’s forwards. An attack by , the visiting centre was stopped by Snell, and an invasion by Chappie, Harrington and Hulbert caused Smart to'concede a corner. Two other corners against Otago followed quiokly, and then relief came by Bannerman hitting out near half-way. Play was up and down the field without either team getting into scoring positions for some time Eventually a Canterbury rush saw Rankin send in a pass to Hulbert. The latter ran into the circle and -missed the ball with his first two shots, scoring at the third attempt. Canterbury two, Otago nil. From tho halfway bully Pauli instituted a nioe rush by the visiting forwards. Bellamy kicked out to the side at the twentyfive flag. Pauli, Drake and Foote broke away again, and Sherwood hit out. Gelletly was immediately afterwards prominent in a Canterbury attack, but Adams removed the danger. A determined invasion by the visiters forwards was stopped by Chambers, who hit to half-way as hair-time sounded.

On resuming Rankin and Harrington were quickly on tlie move, but a long pass to Chappie saw the Addington winger hit over. Calder, Foote and Drake showed good form and worried tbe homo team’s backs for a while, but the Canterbury halves and backs gradually got the mastery and a succession of ‘'‘twenty-fives” in Otago’s end followed. The ball travelled so fast on the hard ground that the forwards could not overtake passes. A fine run by Calder, who eventually broke away on his own, terminated successfully. Bellamy ran out and missed and Calder netted. Canterbury two, Otago one. Tbe pace increased slightly after Otago’s success. A long drive by Chambers went out at the visitors’ quarter flag. Harrington and Rankin led the way to Otago’s circle, but the former hit over. The visitors attacked and Bannerman hit too hard. A corner against Otago was taken by Throp, who hit to Chappie. The Addington winger half stopped the ball and netted, the referee awarding a goal. Canterbury three, Otago one. The Canterbury attack at this time was most persistent. Harrington was dribbling the ball across the circle from right to left when Moxhan held Idm. A penalty bully was awarded and from the first attempt Moxhan hit over his own goal-line. On retaking the bully Harrington scored. Canterbury four, Otago one. The visitors ran to Canterbury's quarter flag, but Rodgers returned. A determined Canterbury forward rush took play to Otago’s circle. Gotz kicked the ball •nto the air and Hulbert hit it into the net before it reached the ground Canterbury five, Otago one. Although the visitors made several runs into the home team’s territory subsequently, the remainder of the game was noticeable for some brilliant “saves by Gotz, whose kicking and driving was a feature of the spell, The game ended in a comfortable win for Canterbury by five goals, scored by Harrington (2 , Hulbert &) and Chappie, to one goah shot by Calder. The game> was played in two spells of thirty-five minutes each and was controlled bv two referees, Messrs L. Cuswortn and H.
