HARBOUR BOARD.

WAIMAKARIRI

A monthly meeting of the Waimakariri Harbour Board was held on Monday evening; present—Messrs. B. Lissaman (chairman;, Edmonds,,,Reveil, Keetley, Bkivington, M'liiicsh, Wright and Barnard. The harbourmaster wrote stating that the Kaiapoi Shipping Company had driven four piles on the south side of Stewart's Gully. The two insido ones were about 15ft from the bank and ghould there be a big flood at any time it might wash the bank away and leavo the piles in the channel. The harbourmaster reported that the average depth on the bar for the month was 9ft at neap tide, and the bar was still shifting to the south. Soundings at the gut in Stewart's Gully showed that there was still 6ft of water at low tide. The river was still in very good order, being practically the same since the previous'report. The report was adopted. The Works Committeo reported that the work of putting in scrub at the training wall at the Gully was now completed, after a. long delay, caused through thoir being unable to hare tho continued use cf the pontoon. The report was adopted. The Board then went into committee to consider the financial position. On resuming the chairman drew attention to the neglect of tho Kaiapoi Shipping Company to erect a building on tiio foreshore, "leased by it. in terms of the lease. It wa? decided to draw the company's attention to the matter. Mr Revell spoke at some length in regard to the action of the Lyttelton Harbour Board in passing a motion regarding the extension of "the franchise, and moved that the Board should support tho Lyttelton Harbour Board in its endeavour to extend the franchise and that a copy of tho motion should be forwarded to the Minister of Murine The motion was seconded by Mr Wright and carried unanimously. Tho Finance Committee reported that the receipts since the previous meeting had been £39 18s Gel md the debit balance at tho bank was £157 Is Id. Accounts for £3l 19s <ld were passed for payment.
