A MISSING WRIT.
THE CHRISTCHURCH NORTH ELECTION. [From Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, August 24. Tlio non-arrival of tbo Christchurch North writ is assuming the proportions of a public scandal. Air Isitt apparently cannot bo sworn in to-day, as the writ did not arrive as expected. Xiio Speaker stated this evening that ho ivas not aware when the writ for Christchurch North would be returned, but it was understood that it would reach him to-morrow. He gathered that it had been delayed to-day owing to tlio failure of the returning officer to register it in time. THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. Air J. H. Newlyn, returning officer for Christchurch North, has completed tlie official count of the votes cast at the recent by-election, and has now made tho following declaration of tlio result: Isitt 3826 Hall 3108 Majority for Isitt . - 718 Informal .... 12 It is understood that tho delay in returning the writ lias been caused by the work of counting the votes and the scrutiny. The writ was posted yesterday, and will bo received by the Speaker to-day.
