AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held at the Pioneer Club on Wednesday evening; present— Dr Thomas (in the chair), Messrs R. Wallace, T. R. Gordon, R. A. Sinolair and H. E. Hamilton (secretary).
The Council wrote, stating that the Australasian amateur championships would be held on December 26 and 27, at Wellington. A resolution was passed that the Centre was of opinion that the venue and dato of the Now Zealand championships should be fixed at once by the Council. Mr J. It. Aitken forwarded a statement of the money collected to send R. Opio to tho Festival of Empire snorts', also receipts from the secretary of the Wellington committee for £B7 13s 2d. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Aitken for the energetic way in which he had worked for the fund. It was also decided to place on record the appreciation of the efforts of the various gentlemen who canvassed 60 vigorously on behalf of the fund. The Otago Centre asked for tho cooperation of the Canterbury Centre for the purpose of obtaining recognition of the dominion as a separate country at the Olympic Games, and urged that deputations should be sent to the Boxing, Rowing, Swimming and Tennis
Associations, with a view to united action being taken. Consideration of the matter was deferred till next meeting.
