RIFLE SHOOTING.
CHRISTCHURCH DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. The annual meeting of the Christchurch Defenco Rifle Club was held oil Wednesday evening, about fifteen members being present. fVlr E. F. Sandford presided. The secretary’s annual report stated that the club liad experienced another successful season, and although several members had resigned or left the city, the new Territorial scheme had been the means ol : securing the membership | of several good shots, who would ma- ! terially strengthen the club. Since j the last annual meeting the club had , placed on record its sincere regret at ' the death of the late Mr A. Gunderson, and its appreciation of the able manner in winch he had administered its | affairs. Soveral matches had been fired during the season, in which the i club’s members bad shot exceedingly | well. Matches had been won against i Duvauchc-llc, Imperial Rifles, Volunteer Rifle Association, Amberley and Pigeon I Bay, and Duvauchelle had beaten the club by seven points. The club’s No. 1 team had been successful in winning the Watkinson Shield at the South Island Rifle Association’s meeting, and in doing so had put up a record score for the .competition. During the season eight club competitions had been fired, and the annual field day, held on Easter Monday, had been a great suc- ; cess, despito unfavourable weather. The club had competed for the “Daily j Mail ” Empire Cup, but bad weather I had prevented a good score. The bal-ance-sheet showed a profit of £o 3s Id I on the year’s workings. Duthio; honorary secretary, Mr D. J. Guinev; honorary treasurer, Mr W. •J. Henry; general committee, Messrs E. F. Sandford, H. N. Eiby. 11. Reynolds, C. M. Walker, L. P. White, N. Wood, J. G. Wilson and W. H. Morrow; handicap-par. Mr E. F. Sandford; match committee, Messrs 11. Reynolds (chairman), W. j. Henry and C. M. Walker; range committee, Messrs J. G. Wilson (chairman), H. G. Ward, J. Carter, A. J. Hahn and N. Wood; nomination committee. Messrs R. Duthie (chairman). C. if. Walker; H. Reynolds. E. F. Sandford and L. P. White. Messrs E. F. Sandford (chairman), H. Reynolds and W. J. Henry were appointed a sub-committee to draw up a set of club rules to l>e submitted to a general meeting of the club. It was decided to hold a general meeting of the club on September 0. when the various sub-committees would make their reports, and the date of opening the season would bo fixed. The secretary was instructed to write to Captain I? cache, secretary of tho Dominion Rifle Association, for information regarding the dimensions and colour of the targets to be used at Trentham next year.

tain cf the club, to the outgoing committees and officers, to donors of prizes and to Messrs Tothill, Ltd., for tho uso o £ their offices for meetings.
