In the Budget debate Air Balfour welcomed the expenditure‘on the treatment of consumption. Ho warned the Government of tho exaggerated enthusiasm in thfe public mind as to sanatorium treatment, and said it was possible to waste money in permanent buildings that would be better devoted to the scientific investigation of the causes of tile disease. There was a great movement in favour of attempting to deal, with tuberculosis in the homes.

Mr Lloyd George replied, stating that he was establishing a special fund to provide scientific investigation. He hoped that the, sanatoria would attract (specialists. life added that Germany had spent inoi’e than was necessary on buildings. It was needless to spend £IOOO a bed; £IOO a bed would provide buildings quite as good.
