FIRES.

Mr Twentyman Hodgson, farmer, Loburn, had a stack of oatsheaf and a quantity of grain in stacks destroyed by firo during Monday night. The stack and the grain, which had not been removed after threshing, wore a considerable distance apart, and it is suspected that they were set fire to by an incendiary. There was no insurance, and Mr Hodgson will be a heavy loser. An alarm was given at Lyttelton at 6.30 p.m. yesterday for an outbreak of firo at the rear of Mr C. Shepherd’s premises in London Street. A rubbish lire had been started in the stables in the back yard during the afternoon, and had apparently burnt out, but burst out into flamo again. The Brigade turned out promptly, but the firo was extinguished Defore it reached the spot.
