HEATHCOTE ROAD BOARD EXCAVATIONS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I wish through your widely circulated paper to ask the Avon Ward ratepayers to take a stroll around the back of the cemetery, and they will be astonished to see the line old road that has cost them so much, ruthlessly destroyed. Already a largo amount of money has been expended, and if the work is allowed to be completed the expenditure will, I ant told, amount to thousands. Some people, have suggested that a syndicate has begun the canal at the wron" end. and tile excavations certainly look like it. Tho question arises: Is the present member of Avon Ward paying the outlay for the improvement of the property adjoining, or are tho ratepayers responsible, in conjunction with tho Board, for so enormous an outlay without the sanction of tho [iconic. Perhaps tho member for the ward will inform the ratepayers the not cost to date and means of payment of this unnecessary and unasked for work.—l am, etc., EQUITY.
