The Mayor and Town Clerk called upon Prince Leopold of Battenberg at his hotel yesterday morning, and spent; about half an hour with him. The Prince stated that he was making a quiet visit to the dominion, chiefly for the sake of his health, and there will be no public civic reception in Christchurch. The Hon Dr Findlay, Minister of Justice, will arrive in Christchurch h'6m the south by the first, express today, and will go on to Wellington. Tho Hon C. M. Luke, M.L.'C, left for Dnnedin yesterday. Mr P. Selig left for Wellington by the Mararoa last evening. Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P.. was a visitor to Christchurch yesterday. Dr and Mrs Herring were passen•gers to Wellington by the Mararoa last evening. Mr George Lewin. town clerk of Lyttelton, has been appointed town clerk of Dunndin, at a salary of £6OO. Messrs .7. Montgomery, J. W. M'Harg, and F. J. Goodwin left for Wellington by the Mararoa last evening. The Hon T. Mackenzie, Minister of Agriculture, will arrive in Christchurch this morning and will spend the day in this city. Mr J. Hodge. M.P.. spent most of his time yesterday driving through the suburbs of the city. He will leave for Dunedin this morning. Mr C. H. E. Graham, of Highbank, has been appointed assistant-master at tho Normal Training College, in place of the late Mr J. Peacock. Messrs L. W. Harris, E. M. Theomin. W. J. Croft, F. Johnston (Dunudin) and J. M'Beath (Timaru) arrivod in Christchurch by the second express train, last evening. The Commandant cf the Forces (Ma.jor-Genernl Godley, C. 8.), accompanied by his staff-officer, LieutenantColonel Burnett Smith. D. 5.0., left Wellington for the south last night on a visit of inspection. .Adjutant Home, who has been in charge of the Salvation Army in Lyttelton, has been transferred to Blenheim. A large number of his friends gave him an enthusiastic send-off on Tuesday evening. He will be succeeded by Adjutant Bultimore, from Milton. 'After a year's absence from the dominion. who leaves for Christchurch in a couple of days and opens the Timaru session next Wednesday, expressed himself as feeling in excellent health. Mr E. E. Booth, representing Mr Lawrence Campbell, entertainer, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning to make arrangements fob- Mr Campbell's Christchurch season, which will open at the Choral Hall on Monday evening. Mr Booth, who was a member of the " All Blacks," also toured the United Kingdom with the Australian Rugby team in 1908, acting as a. special correspondent. The following appointments were made by the North Canterbury Education Board at its meeting yesterday morning:—Lismore, Mr W. Sutcliffe, master; Spreydon, Mr W. G. Cookson, assistant master ; and Ashburton. Miss Louie Burnard and Mr O. Harold, pupil-teach-ers. The following resignations were accepted :—Miss L. F. Pulley, pupilteacher, Riccarton; Mr J. F. Feron, pupil-teacher, Richmond: Mr L. R. Ellis, master, Weedons; Mrs I. Anderson, mistress, Riverside.
