CHARGE OF SLY GROGSELLING.
Afc the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Joseph Sohleeman. a boardiughoiisekeeper, was charged with haviug indulged in sly grog-selling. Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., heard the case. The prosecution was made on the strength of the allegations of Mary and Edward Kerr, lodgers at the defondant's boardinghouse, both of whom admitted having police records, the woman for vagrancy and the: man for Mary Kerr said that the defendant had sold her beer, and she had paid him *>i 6d for it- She had reported the matter to the police, and later Sohleeman had turned her out. Edward Kerr also said that, the defendant had sold beer to himself an d his wife. He had reported the sale to the no lice after they had been turned out " He admitted having threatened Schfceman that if-he turned "nasty " he would repmt the tote-to^ the police. Sergeant Burrowed said that he had searched the house tn ice and found no eteu of any intoxicating liquor.. The defendant on oath denied the
charge and the Magistrate, remarking that ho could not convict on such tainted evidence, dismissed the case.
