THE TERRA NOVA.

The crew of the Terra Nova had a day ofr on Saturday, the majority of them going out to Riccarton to see the races. Their rest, as one of tho officers remarked, was justified, for. they had done in five days work which it was expected would take eight to complete. Now that tho dock is dry Mr M. J. Miller, the contractor, has been ablo to give the hull oi the Terra Nova a close inspection to find any flaws. On examination it was found that the timber is in exceptionally good condition, and only a few joints require attention. To locato the leak in the bow a rough bulk-head has been fitted up inside the lore-peak, and this will be filled with water n.nd tho result olosely watched. Mr Miller states that to he able to 6ti,y definitely on Monday the extent of work that will be required to lit the vessel for the trip south. A couple of workmen ware engaged on Saturday removing the concrete from round the "bush 1 of the vessel's propeller, so as not to interfere with her pace. It has been decided to pdj back tho amount of concrete that wfu be necessary to cover the nut of the blades. An interesting exhibit of articles from the cqaipmont of the Antarctic expedition has been arranged in Messrs J. Hawkos and Oo.'s garage. The principal exhibit is one of tho motorsledgos, and it is supported by a small dog-sledge, a sleeping-bag-, a pair of ski tna several pairs of fur mits and schnoeskoe. Some tins of horse ration and a mounted Emperor penguin complete tho display. Large numbers of people inspected the exhibit on Saturday, and yesterday, paying particular attention to the motor-sledge, which has been raised from the floor of the garage and shown to advantage.
