A disturbance in the northern quarter of Berlin arose over the dismis-al of a butcher's assistant, owing to his late arrival at work. A mob of several thousand hooligans and women attacked the shop at night, and pelted the police with stones. Tho police charged the mob with drawn swords, wounding many. The crowd retaliated with beer bottles and fragments of balcony railings. It also sang the “ Marseillaise,” and smashed the street lamps.
