Unscrupulous Trading. “ Tricky ” advertisingwas recently discussed by the Drapers’ Chamber of Trade, and the abuse may well be classed with trade mis-descrip-tion. It was pointed out that a very large number of advertisements contained misleading elements, others were rendered attractive by gross exaggeration, while the most flagrant of all were absolutely untruthful in essential points. Such advertisements have a most harmful effect, as tending to quite overshadow the necessarily colder and balder announcements in which the “truth without exaggeration ” principle prevails. Then, again, the rude awakening of the gulled purchasers leads them to discount all advertisers’ stateinen s, and thus one of the most valuable aids to increased business is seriously prejudiced. h lac Suits from JM 4s.
