AN APPEAL UPHELD. Press Association ] . WELLINGTON, June IG. At a. meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night a letter was received from L. M. Tansey. protesting against bis suspension by the Otifgo Union for six playing Saturdays for striking an opponent, The grounds of. the protest are that the Otago Union had no jurisdiction to deal with the appellant, lie not having been reported, and, assuming that the Union had jurisdiction, ,the sentence Was excessive. It was decided to uphold the appeal, on the ground that the Union, had ho jurisdiction, the player not having been reported.

At a meeting of the Wellington Rugbv Union last night an inquiry was made' into the dispute between two players at the conclusion of a match played recently. J. Marshall (Melrose) who had been find £1 on a charge of assault, and C. Ryder, came before tlio committee of the Rugby Union and were examined. The committee found that the assault had been preceded by provocation and suspended Marshall until the end of the first round. When the suspension had been passed, Mr Peters, who had proposed that Marshall should be suspended for three years, remarked that if this was the way that football was going _to be managed lie was better out of it, and ho, therefore, bade the committee “ good-night.”

The annual match between the town sepresentatives and a combined country team will be played at Lancaster Park to-morrow, at 2 p.m. Fifth Class ani Junior Flag matches will also be played there. At the Show Grounds there will be two Junior Flag games. A Junior football match was played at Ashburton on Wednesday between teams representing the Rakaia and Springburn Clubs. The Rakaia team won by fifteen points to nil.
