MAORI CONFERENCE.

THE DRINK TRAFFIC. [Per Pkess Association.] AUCKLAND, Juno 14. Tho Maori Conference at Waahi carried resolutions for the immediate constitution of a District Maori Council, which will supersede all the Land Boards and largely overcome tho delay in the settlement of land. The Maori Council was instructed to draw up stringent rules for the suppression of the drink traffic. The speakers bemoaned the intemperance of the rising generation, and urged that nothing but the total prohibition of liquor from the lands, villages and pas occupied by the Maoris would be acceptable. It was resolved that the lands known as the Hopu Hopu Mission should be acquired and a Native town established there, with a college giving boys and girls first-class secondary education.
