SUNDAY GOLF.

PROTEST OF THE WAIMAIBI COUNTY COUNCIL. At tho meeting of the Waimairi County Council last evening Mr W. J. Walter introduced the question of golf playing on Sunday. He said that thero was a great deal of feeling amongst the ratepayers in the Avon Riding who strongly objeted to golf being played on the Shirley links on Sunday. " 1 move that a letter bo sent to the club asking it to discontinue tho playing on Sunday," said Mr Walter, " and if they refuse, then I am ready to give them all the fight they want. I am satisfied that the majority of the members of tho club would be in favour of discontinuing tho play." Mr J. Hanna seconded the motion. Mr F. Sisson said that tho matter had been boforo the Avon Road Board, and he know that many ratepayers objected- strongly to tho practice. Recently the Invercargill City Council had considered tho question, and the opinion had been expressed that if golf were permitted oil Sunday footballers and cricketers had as much right to play.
