The steamer Prinz Waldemar brings news of a disastrous typhoon in the Japan Sea last month that did much damage to coastal shipping and fishing craft at Hong Kong. Many vessels were lost, and the death-roll was heavy. Big storms were also experienced in the Carolines, and several island vessels are missing. The Prinz Waldemar picked up five native castaways, part of the crew of an island vessel swept out to sea. They stated that tho captain, tho only white man aboard, jumped overboard and was drowned. The castaways were eight days without food, and suffered terrible privations.
