Xhe Maori is due from Wellington to-day. Che Te Anau, from southern ports, has been delayed, and will not reach here-till to-mor-row. Last night tho Kini sailed for Greymcrath, and the kaituna will probably be able to follow her to-night. All the company's vessels have had good despatch, and the Kamona will, it is hoped, be able to leave for tho West Coast on Thursday. The Kajtangata is expected to leave to-morrow or 'the next day for Westport, where eho will load for Auckland. The Echunga will probably be able to get away to-morrow evening. The huge cargo of coal she brought ■was sufficiently cleared 3-esterday to allow tho bottom to be cleaned for a few feet. It is understood that she will return to Sydney in ballast. The Kumara left London on June 4 for Auckland, Wellington and Bluff. Tho Westport Coal Company's collier Canopus is due from Westport to-night or early ' to-morrow morning with a cargo of coal. ; The Breeze is due to-day from Wanganiu, ! and will sail for southern ports. Having been delayed at Wellington, the ' Wakatu is not expected here till to-morrow , night. The Drayton Grange was to havo left "Timaru late last night for Lyttclton, and should be here this morning. She will complete loading at this port for Avonmouth. Liverpool and Glasgow, and under the arCaitgements at present drafted should sail for ' aVonmoutb direct. The, Mamari is expected to sail to-night or to-morrow for Port Chalmers to continue loading. She is to complete at Picton and ! Wellington.. i Tho Kairaki should arrive from Kaiapoi to-dav, 'and will sail for Westport and Grey- . month. The Aparhaa should now be on her way from .Newcastle to Calcutta, via Singapore ' and Penang. She is due at Calcutta on July 20, 'and at the end of that month should set out again for New Zealand, calling as usual at Singapore and Samarang. In a day or two the Union Company's steamer Taviuni should start running to the West Coast. Among the repairs necessitated by her stranding at Westport and the subsequent operations was the renewal of her stern-post and stern-frame. An excellent job is reported to have been made of the aias3ivo 1 ironwork. j An unusually good supply of trucks was on ' hand at Lyttelton yesterday, and the steamors Kini, Kaituna, Kamona, Kaitangata and ' Echunga had working betwoen them no fewer . than twenty-nine gangs of men. The consequence was that a large quantity of cargo . was landed from tWc steamers, and all made . good progress towards sailing time. According to a correspondent, writing to the "London Shipping Gazette" of April 29, 'each week in the previous three months had ' shown a decrease in tho number of sailing ships under the British flag, owing to sales to foreign buyers, chiefly Germans, Italians, and Norwegians. During that time twenty sailing vessels cf a total tonnage of 19,100 tons, had been sold, at prices equalling i'l 15b per ton register. One of the ships sold, the Parkdale, was on the overdue list in 1906. from Geelong to Table Bay, a passage which occupied 100 days. Two others had been laid up at a Continental port during the last two years. Dealing with the general question of •ailing-ship trade, the correspondent points out that the Donna Francisca and other .British sailing ships have been two years at Portland, Oregon, waiting for a cargo, which :had not come, and that the French ship ,Emma Laurans went from England to Ho- ' .barf, San Francisco, and. Sydney in ballast trim all the while. Even so, however, she might be earning money for the owners under s th 6 French bounty mileage system. " The Adelaide Steam SKip Comoany's '. ■tearner Dilkera arlived at Timaru on Sunday ,'tfrom BunbUry, via Melbourne, and after discharging 32.759 railway sleepers, she will epme on to Lyttelton, probably about Thursday. Favourable weather was experienced ~for the most part, the vessel leaving Melbourne on May 28. When loading at Bunbury, the second mate fell between the ship and the wharf and was crushed to death. The famous little auxiliary yacht Snark, i which was the property of Mr Jack London, ■ the novelist, has been purchased by Captain Charles Alfred Newgreen, of Samarai. Papua, , end tbe Solomon Islands, and will probably .be employed for trade purposes in New ; Guinea. The Snark arrived at Sydney on .
