THE ESCAPED PRISONER.

TREMBATH BEFORE THE COURT. John Trembath, who escaped from custody by jumping off Die express from the south on June 3. was brought before Mr H. W. Bishop S.M.. at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, charged with having escaped from legal custody. Mr Hunter appeared for Trembath, and asked for a remand. Mr Bishop said that lie doubted if ho would hear the case. Chief Detective Bishop said that Trembath would plead guilty. The Magistrate could sentence him to twelve months' imprisonment. Mr Eishc'p: ruder the Police Offences Act? Chief Detective Bishop said that Trembath had been charged under the Police Offences Act to save the State the expense of a committal to tho Supreme Court. Already ihe escape had cost a Fair amount. Mr Bishop: The only question is i might not be able to give him enough. He is serving a term of three years. Tho accused was remanded until Saturday.
