A Portuguese vessel foundered at Pico, in the Azores, and twenty-three persons wore drowned.

SYDNEY, March 17

The barque Pharos, from Antofagasta, narrowly escaped foundering. She was caught in a cyclone eighty miles olf the Cook Group, and thrown on her beam ends, the ballast shifting. Tne crew was awaiting the end when a shift of wind caused tho vessel to right, only to be thrown over on the other side. She again righted, and tlio weather moderated.
