Sir,- —In view of the avowed intention of the Domain Board to seek power from the Legislature to charge for admission to Hagley Park, on certain occasions, I think it is up to us workers to do more than simply pass resolutions at our Union meetings. The Davis Cup lawn tennis competition is mentioned ns the real cause for the sudden desire to take gate money, as Lancaster Park, in its present awful state, is eminently unsuitable. lam no spoil-sport, and should like to see the Davis Cup played for in Christchurch, and in lieu of Hagloy Park being used for the purpose, I would suggest the Metropolitan Trotting Ground, at Addington, with its splendid lawns, and its huge new grandstand, also its groundsman, who, when at Lancaster Park was second to none at the preparing of lawn tennis courts and cricket pitches. Australian cricketers were wont to praise our wickets in those days. Anyhow, the Christchurch public are averse to paying for admission to the glorious heritage loft them by the founders of Canterbury, but the wishes of the Domain Board will assuredly be given effect to unless a most spirited protest is made, and now is the time to make it, not leave it until too late. A petition, asking our legislators to refuse to accede to the proposals of the Domain Board, should be prepared and copies.placed in prominent positions in town, so that all may have a chance of signing it. I commend this proposal, more especially, to the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council. —I am, etc.,
