The Hon Dr Findlay, Minister of Justice, who has been spending a holiday at Mount Cook, will arrive in Christchurch by the first express to-day, and will go on to Wellington. He had intended to visit the Lyttelton prison and the prison oainp at Hanmer, but this proposal has been abandoned. Mr T. H. Davey, M.P., left for Wellington last evening. Mr R. S. Field returned to Christchurch yesterday from a holiday trip to the North Island. A number of Christchurch bowlers returned from the Dunedin tournament by yesterday’s expresses. Mr H. G. Ell, M.P., and Mrs Ell have returned to Christchurch from a holiday near Little Akaloa. Messrs S. C. Hodges (London), J. Mathieson (Ceylon), F. Courage (Ambor ley) and G. Rutherford (Dalethorpe) arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Professor W. Baldwin Spencer, of Melbourne, who discovered the pineal eye in the New Zealand tuatara, is spending his annual holiday at Mount Cook. Arrivals in Christchurch yesterday include Messrs J. R. C. Russell (England), R. Chase-Morris and A. Forbes (Wellington) and H. B. White, (Blenheim). Mr Geoffrey Nye, a well-known theatrical manager, will be resident manager for the West. Picture Theatre, either in > Wellington .or in Christchurch. Captain Newton, who was master of the ill-fated Waikare. has been chosen for the position of .harbourmaster at New Plymouth. There were over thirty applicants. Commissioner Hay, chief of the Salvation Army staff for Australia, and Mrs Hay reached Dunedin yesterday morning, and were accorded a civic reception at the Town Hall. Mr J. C. Cameron was last night appointed clerk and surveyor to the Heathcote Road Board. Mr Cameron is at present foreman of works to the Christchurch City Council. ■ Miss Inglis, matron of St Helens Hospital, Christchurch, has been appointed matron of Cambridge Sanatorium. Miss Ludwig, sub-matron at Christchurch, has been appointed matron of St Helens Hospital, Auckland. Messrs Charles and J. MacMahon passed through Christchurch yesterday on their way to Dunedin. They are presenting a film of the drama “ Tho Term of His Natural Lifo ” in the chief towns of the dominion, and will be in Christchurch shortly. Canon Pollock, of Gloucester Cathedral, arrived in Wellington on. Wednesday. He will make arrangements for the Anglican mission which is to visit the dominion in August. His co-worker, the Rev A. H. Kennedy, will arrive in the dominion next week. The Rev H. S. Woolcombe, travelling representative of the Church of England’s Men’s Society, arrived in Dunedin yesterday, and received a civic welcome. He will commenco his mission in New Zealand in Dunedin on Sunday, making a special feature of addresses to men. He will afterwards visit the rest of the dominion. The death is announced at (Feilding of Mrs Goodbehere. relict of the late Mr Samuel Goodbehere, exMayor of Feilding, at the age of eighty-nine years. Deceased was the ' mother of Mr Edmund Goodbehere. present councillor and chairman of the Fire Board, etc., and also an ejs-Mayor. The family was one of the first to settle in tho district.
