FAREWELL GATHERING.
MR A. HENDERSON ENTERTAINED Last evening a social gathering was tendered by the warehousemen of Christchurch and tho Scottish Society to Air Alexander Henderson, formorly manager for Alessrs Ross and G-lendin-ing, Limited, who is about to leave Christchurch on a holiday trip to tho United Kingdom, Air G. AV. Hulme was in the cliairyand there was a. large attendance, among those present being Messrs G. Laurenson and H. G. Ell, members of Parliament. The chairman expressed the wish of the gathering that Air Henderson might enjoy' his holiday, and the hope that he would return to Christchurch invigorated and refreshed. Ho said that Air Henderson was not a hero or anything strikingly wonderful, but those who had met him in business and in private life knew him as a man and as a good citizen. Alessrs Laurenson, Ell and W. AV. Tanner also spoke in eulogistic terms of Air Henderson as a business man and as a citizen. They all said that Air Henderson had taken a great interest in politics, and that he had greatly assisted in the advance of Linwood. Air Henderson said that he had “stuck to his last” and had endeavoured always to do his duty. He deeply appreciated the kindly manner in -which his friends had spoken about him. During the evening musical items wero given by Messrs F. Collins, R. Al’Donald, H. Al’Leod and F. AVauchop and the Alisses Al’Donald, and before the gathering broke up “ Auld Lang Syne ” was sung.
