THE AUSTRALIAN TOUR. MEETING OF NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. The New Zealand Cricket Council met yesterday to consider Wellington’s reply regarding the financial pooling scheme for the Australian tour. It was first contemplated that the tour would have to be abandoned, but it was decided ultimately that the Canterbury and Otago Associations should be asked if they would abandon the pooling scheme and agree to terms similar to those proposod by the Wellington Association. A filial decision will have to bo lodged ■ with the management committee by noon to-day. CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. A special meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association was held last evening, to consider the following letter from the New Zealand Cricket Council in regard to the Australian team’s tour:—“At a meeting of the Management Committee, held this day, it was resolved to ask your Association to guarantee 150 at your own risk, 1 as by no other means can the visit eventuate, owing to the Wellington Association’s absolute refusal to participate under the pooling system. The arrangements for the team* leaving Australia are so far advanced that it is most important that the Council should keep faith with the Board of Control. Should your Association agree to the Council’s final request it will save the situation.” Mr Young moved—“ That the previous resolution be rescinded, and that, in view of the attitude taken up by the Wellington Association, and to enable the Council to have a free hand, this Association will agree to guarantee £l5O unconditionally for a match with the Australian team.” The motion was seconded by Mr Thomson, and carried unanimously.
