NICKEL SUPPLIES.

® THE WORLD’S RESOURCES. CONTROLLED BY AN AMERICAN TRUST. AN APPEAL TO CANADA. United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 20. Mr Arthur YVilson, who on behalf of tho Imperial Government is investigating Canada’s nickel resources, addressing the Mines and’Mineral Committee of tho Dominion House of Commons, said that Canada possessed three-fifths of tho world’s store of nickel, and the balance was in Now Caledonia. An American trust, namely, the International Nickel Company of New York, controlled these areas. He strongly urged Canada to assume control of that country’s nickel resources for the benefit of the Dominion and the Empire. Owing to the trust’s control the price was so high that only Governments were able to buy the mineral. Pens of millions of tons in Canada were unexploited because the trust did not- wish to work them yet. The matter was one of Imperial urgency, and tlie Government should assume control of the nickel deposits. State control would give Britain an enormous advantage over all other countries in connection with the construction of battleships. Tho committee decided to investigate the operations of the trust.
