Tho Hon T. Mackonzio, Minister of Agriculture, arrived in Christchurch last evening. Ho will attend tho ceremony of driving tho first pile at the AVaiau bridgo this afternoon. In tho overling lie will be present at a banquet at Cheviot. Ho will return to Christchurch on Monday and will go on to Wellington in the evening.

Mr Will Crooks, ALP., and Airs Crooks were tendered a civio welcome at Wellington last night. Thero was a largo audience. Tho Mayor presided and welcomed Mr Crooks and his wife to Wellington, speaking in appreciation of their humanitarian work in England.

Captain A. A. Brown, harbour pilot at Lyttelton, who lias been away for a holiday, partly on account of his health, returned to Lyttelton a day or two ago, hut is still far from well. At the annual meeting of tho Amuri County Council, hold on Wednesday, Air I) D. Alacfarlano__was re-elected chairman. At a meeting held on the same day to elect a representative for the Amuri, Cheviot and Kaikoura counties on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards, Mr J. H. Davison was reelected. Among the passengers by tho Ulimaroa last evening were Alessrs AV. E. Mills aud T. Borthwick, who loft for Melbourne. Air E. D. Hoben, editor of the “Manawatu Daily Times,” Palmerston North, arrived in Christchurch yesterMr R. Al. Isaack (Wellington), Mr R. Cliase-Alorris Wellington). Mr H. G. Anderson (Wellington), Air and Airs Bicknell (Invercargill), Mr A. Trevor Coleman (Gisborne), Air N. S. Jacobs (Dunedin), Mr R. Smith (Invercargill), and Air A. A. Quair (Oamaru) arc visitors to Christchurch. . At Rangiora last evening, tho choir of the Anglican Church and the teachers of tho Sunday school entertained Air J. Court, who is about to remove to Christchurch, Tlie Rev F. P. Fendall made a presentation to the guest and spoke in appreciative terms of Air Court’s sendees as Sunday school superintendent and a member of the choir and as a church worker in other capacities.
