ROAD BOARDS.

ELLESMERE. A monthly meeting of tho Elleemcro Road Board was held at Leeston on July 1; present—Messrs J. Storry i (chairman), J. S. Boag, J. M'Millan, j M. Dixon and J. Lochhead. A ycti- i tion for the formation of Queen Street, Doyleston, was received, and it was decid'ed that the street, should be im- i proved at a suitable time. Jt was resolved that final notice should bo given to all defaulters to remove goTse from their frontages. Mr Lochhead and the sur- j veyor wero authorised to decide the j nature of the fence required at Camp- j belPa Corner, ami it was agreed that tenders should bo called for the work for consideration at next meeting. It was resolved to call for tenders for supplying double and oingle horse teams when required for a period of twelve I months, and to invito applications for j daymen for the same term. It was resolved that in, future the meetings should be held on the first Monday in the month, at 11 a.m. TAT TAPU. Tho last meeting of the Tai Tapu Road Board was attended by Messrs T. Macartney (chairman). Morton, Heinz- | mantt and Gilmour. The New Zealand Counties Association wrote asking for information regarding the proposed | local authorities superannuation I scheme. The Eyreton Road Board met on Monday; present—Messrs Dixon, Burgin. Skovington and Wright. Mr Wright was elected chairman. The Waimaka- ; riri-Ashlev Water Supply Board wrote

stating that it could not agree to the proposal that it should transfer to the Road Board the care of fords across the roads in the district, but the fords were receiving attention. It was decided to add concrete tops to tho two culverts on White's Road. Accounts for £l2O Ss Id were passed for payment. TEMPLETON. Tho Tcmpietou Road Board met on .Monday, Mr Carr presiding. Correspondence was road from the Asßlfitant-Auditor-Gcnoral, asking for information concerning items on the balance-sheet, -lid the answer, .sent by tho clerk was read and approved. An application for a footpath at Sockburn was discussed and it was decided to inform the applicant that owing to the pressure of work it could not be gone on with at present. Correspondence was received from several ratepayers asking for improvements to the roads in their locality. The clerk was instructed to insmret the reads and deal with the requests The Valuation Department forwarded the valuation of tho Board s property at Masham, which was considered ' satisfactory. Tho clerk reported on the work done during tho past month, which included repairs to the Middle Lincoln Road. Victory's Road, Duncan's Road and Main South Road, and forming and shingling a new road at Islington. Now works were authorised. LITTLE RIVER. The Little River Road Board met on Monday, all the members being present. Jt was decided to supply goggles to men engaged in stone knapping. It was decided to give notice of the Board's intention to' levy a rate of Id in the pound. The chairman reported that the Akaroa County Council had agreed to pay £IOO towards tho cost of electing a bridge over Okute Creek. It was decided that the work should bo undertaken later in the year. Accounts for £263 18s od were passed for payment.
