FRESH AIR FUND.
HOLIDAYS FOR SLUM CHILDREN
Last year the promoters of the Fresh Air Fund were able to send over 235,000 slum children from the great cities of England, Ireland, Scotland and "Wales into the country for a day’s enjoyment. This year they want to send over half a million and they are appealing to the people of New Zealand to help them in realising their wish. A gift of ninepence will puicliaso a whole day’s happiness for a slum waif, including a trip into the country and two good meals, and a donation of ten shillings will give some sick and ailing mito a whole fortnight’s delightful holiday in a country homo. Subscriptions should bo sent to tho “Lyttelton Times” office, in envelopes worded “ Fresh Air Fund,” or left with the clerk at the public counter. The following amounts have been received :
On Saturday tho editor of the “Lyttelton Times” remitted £2O to tho organiser of the Fund, Mr C. A. Pearson, and ho hopes to sond at least ail equal amount each fortnight till tho end of July. Last year,' tho people of Hawke’s Bay forwarded £440. Tho promoters of tho Fund bear till the. cost of administration, and ovory ponny subscribed in New Zealand will reach the children, whoso lives it is intended, to brighten.
