Professor Lowrio, who was asked to accept the Professorship of Agriculture in Sydney University, declined owing to having mado a five years’ engagement with the Government of Western Australia to fill tho position of Director of Agriculture at the University. He was offered a ten years’ engagement at £IOOO a year, tho same salary as Western Australia. ‘ A VIRULENT SPEAKER. PERTH, May 24. Responding to tho toast of Parliament at a meeting Mr Quinlan, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, declared that Western Australia had suffered greatly by federation, and if ho had his way he would flog to death every man who voted for federation, and would give Sir John Forrest the worst flogging.
