Drunkenness. —Three, first offenders were fined 5s and costs each, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment.—Two other first offenders were fined a similar amount for being drunk on the Railway Station.—Charles Carlson, a second offender, was fined 10s and costs, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. —George Newnham, a third offender, was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment. Breach of Prohibition Order.— Charles Henry Lascolles was fined 10s and costs for drunkenness, and a similar amount for procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Theft. —John Hamer pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a pair of children’s boots, the property of Stewart Robinson. Sub-Inspector M’Grath said that on Saturday night the accused took a pair of boots which were hanging outside Robinson’s shop in Cashel Street. He was under the influence of liquor at the time, and when arrested said that he wanted the boots for one of his children. This was his first appearance, and the police had nothing further against him. The Magistrate said that it was a very impudent theft, and he could riot see why accused should take a pair of boots in that manner. However, he would treat him leniently, and would fine him 40s and costs.
Obstructing the Police.— Harry Henrickson, for having wilfully obstructed Constable Phillips while in tire execution of his duty,'was fined 40s and costs, in default one mouth’s imprisonraent.
