FARMERS’ UNION.

[Pep. Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, April 30.

At a meeting of tbe Southland Executive of tho Farmers’ Union the following (among other) remits to be submitted to tho annual conference Avore received: —“That a protest be entered against tho alteration. of the size of grain sacks; that strong exception bo taken to tho action of tho Southland Acclimatisation Society in securing tho protection of hares; . that imported timber be placed on tho freo list and no distinction bo mada in raihvay charges as between imported and New Zealand timber; that steps be taken to secure immigration of suitable farm servants, especially ploughmen; that first-class railway tickets at second-class rates be offered to fanners attending tbe conference ; that Avken valuations are being mado a v:iluer should be appointed by the farmers to act in conjuction with'the Government valuer; that taxation on land and on money lent on laud b© put on a more equitable basis. One branch will submit a motion regretting the Dreadnought action without first consulting Parliament. The Executive will submit that the contract system of public works should be reverted to as more satisfactory than the co-operative system; that injustice is caused by the taxation of growing flax; that a protest should bo entered against the continual increase of valuation of unimproved rural land ; that the Government should bo ringed to amend the larv so as to enablo every settler to have the option of acquiring the freehold of Land for Settlements lands. It is understood that the Dairy regulations will ho generally reviewed and dealt with.
