WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

THE SOCIETY’S WORK. The: usual monthly' meeting of the Society for the Promotion of Health in. Women and Children was held on April 10 in tho St John Ambulance Room. The secretary reported that tho Hon D. Buddo had visited tho office in Durham Street during thoprevious week, in order to bo acquainted with the nurses, and showed tho greatest interest in the work. BA inquired into the methods adopted by the Society, and asked for information as to the working of the Karitano Home in Dunedin. He considered that more satisfactory results could, bo obtained by a Society of this kind if it was carried on. by private enterprise and subsidised by the Government than if the work was handed over to and managed by the State. With regard to the subsidy applied for, the Minister announced that it would be available almost immediately, and, in conclusion, expressed himself am being pleased with all he had seen and heard. Tho question then, arose, as to what should constitute the boundaries limiting the nurses’ visits, as their i work had extended to such a degree that they could no longer perform their duties satisfactorily unless some such limitation was laid down. After some discussion it was decided that in future Nurse Morgan and Nurso Macarthy should attend cases only within a radius of two miles from the post office in Cathedral Square.’ As they could bo consulted, at the office, 27, Durham Street south, every day except Saturdays and Sundays from two to- three o’clock, and any information might be obtained there, or tho nurses could be consulted by letter, there was no reason, it was stated, why this rule should Under the progress or efficiency of the work, as in urgent cases the telephone. No. 285, was always available. The nurses’ monthly report showed a large increase, in the number of cases.
