SWIMMING.
CHAMPIONSHIP CARNIVAL. A swimming carnival promoted by the* Canterbury Centre, of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held last evening at the Municipal Tepid Bath. There was a fairly large gathering of spectators. The programme included the SSOyds Provincial Championship, and the first four rounds of the Water Polo Championship of Canterbury, together with attractive diving events, so that it was of mere than ordinary interest. The Provincial Championship was won by F. E. Dodge (East Christchurch) in 13min 11&8C, W. Manhire being second in 13mm 28sec. There were only three starters, tno remaining one, C. H. H. Rich, being the previous holder of the championship. The times of Dodge -and Manhire were both inside the standard. During the evening Mr Ct. Harris, president, of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, handed to Mr H. H. Wan chop the Royal Humane Society's bronze medal for saving life at New Brighton on gala day, two years «-go, when several swimmers got into difficulties m a-life-saving competition. For bravery at the samo time, H. Wauchop. V. Drake and H. Williams were handed the Royal. Humane Society's certificates. All the recipients were cheered.
