Drunkenness. —Two first offenders for insobriety were each fined 5s and costs, in default twenty-four hours’ im-prisonment.-—James M’Adof was convicted and discharged for drunkenness,' and was fined 10s and costs for using abusive and insulting language in a public place. Remanded. —Charles Albert Hood was remanded for one week on a charge of being found hv night in a dwellinghouse at Riccarton, with intent to commit a crime. Bail was allowed in £SO and one surety of £SO. By-iaw Cases. —Flewellen M’Rae was fined os and costs for riding a bioyclo at night without carrying a light. 'For driving a hackney carriage without first being licensed, John Le Brittau was fined ss, and was similarly fined fornot licensing a hackney carriage plying for hire. Consorting with Thieves. —Leedham Sweeney was charged with being an idle and disorderly person, and that he habitually consorted with reputed thieves and persons having no lawful visible means of support. Accused admitted the first charge, but added, that he only came to Christchurch on March 15 and was not aware that the companions he picked up with were reputed thieves. Chief-Detective Bishop said that accused had ten previous convictions for more or less serious charges, and was known by a number of aliases, including Rone Rosarte, .Russell, Mills and Whitehead. Accused was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative.
