The Maori is duo on the daily ferry service from Wellington to-day. To-morrow the Pateena will take up the Mararoa’s running, and will continue in it till the Mararoa is repaired. No word was received up till yesterday as to the carrying out of the work. ' The Moeraki will arrive from Melbourne via southern ports this morning. To-day the Wairuna lS due from Auckland, bringing a quantity of bridge material consigned to the Broken River railway works, and she will sail, probably to-day, for the Bluff direct. The Drayton Grange is expected to sail for ■'Avonmonth on Saturday. She will bo a full ship from Lyttelton, and, somewhat out of the ordinary course, will not be tabled to make a single oall on the way to England, except at Madeira, where she will take in coal. The next Federal-Houlder-Shire steamer is the Langton Grange. She is duo to-morrow from Wellington, and will discharge about 800 tonß of cargo here. After going south to complete discharge, the Langton Orange will follow the Drayton Grange on the loading berth, and will call; at Lyttelton in the course nf filling up. The Elsa has been making irregular progress in discharging her cargo. The necessity for very largo trucks to carry her big ■ timber, and the limited supply of them • nvailable, has handicapped her considerably, but she may get away to-night for NapieT. Thence she will go to Auckland, and she will return to Timaru and Lyttelton to fill up with grain. The Kapiti is due on Saturday from Wellington, to load for Wellington, Wangamu and Patea. The Clan Ogilvy, having discharged salt and wattle-bark, loaded 'a. large quantity of ■wool and grain at Lyttelton, and sailed last ;night for Wellington, Pictou and Auckland, Ito complete loading. [ The Oanopuß sailed for Westport last night. '■ The Ripple did not sail for the Chatham '■lslands yesterday, her departure having been | postponed till this morning. It is stated that the Lodge system consists of ‘driving electricity into a fog-laden atmosphere at a Very high voltage from a series 'of discs at the tops of pole 3. The current acts directly on the constituents of the fog, the eleotrio influence causing them to collect and fall to the ground. A test is soon to ; be mode of. the apparatus in London. , The Shaw-Savill steamer Arawa arrived in ■Wellington from London on Sunday night. She mado a noteworthy trip Home after leaving New Zealand on January 12. It will he remembered that having lost a. propeller, she was delayed by docking and repairs, and she lost a fortnight. She took in * 3000 tons of bunker coal before she left Now Zealand, and made a “ non-ston ran ” from the Wellington wharf to the Royal Albert Docks, London, at an average speed of thirteen knots an hour. She made the trip in thirty-eight days l , having out out the customary coaling stops both oh the South American coast and Teneriffe.

THE- ULBIAROA. ' Th» repairs to the Ulimnroa y.re completed, but it is not yet known definitely when she will oomo out oi dock. A pood deal _of painting has been done, including covering the bottom with anti-fouling compound. Testing of the new and replaced plates is in progress, and three tanks are still to bo tested. The ship is in a very, dirty state/ owing to tho time efhe ha-s been, in the hands of the workmen, and the griminess inseparnhle from tho nature of the work done. Simultaneously with the other finishing off cleaning up is going on. If the testing proves tho work well done, the steamer will come out of dock next week, and will ho tunning before the end of the month. 'telegraph NOTICE BOARD. AUCKLAND. April 21.
