CIVIL SERVICE ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tlie annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Civil Service Association was held on Tuesday, at the old Government Buildings, Mr G. G. Bridges (vice-president) in the chair. The annual report stated that a considerable increase in membership had taken place during the year, anu some of the objects for which the Association was formed had already been realised, the Civil Service superannuation scheme having already become law, while the classification scheme was understood to bo well advanced and likely to como into operation during the coming year. The social side of the Association’s work had been furthered by football and cricket matches and a dinner, which it was hoped would become annual fixtures. The Cash Purchase Association, established in connection with tiie branch conjointly with the Railway Associations, had a membership of over 500, and was in a very flourishing condition. The year had closed with a small credit balance. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M. (re-elected); vice-president, Mr G. G. Bridges (re-elected); committee, the officers of the branch and Messrs Prudhoo (Insurance), Barnett (Public Trust), Ambrose (Land Transfer), Withers (Stamps), Clothier (Valuation), Cordery, Haworth and Oxford (Customs), Brfiddell (Prisons) and J. Bendely and
J. C. Andersen (Lauds and Survey); honorary secretary, Mr A. L. B. ltoss (Stamps’): honorary treasurer, Mr G. 1\ Purnell (Public Trust). Mr Cordery was elected delegate to the annual conference of the Executive Council, to be held at Auckland on May 25.
