A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
The General Committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association met yesterday; present— Messrs M. Murphy .(president), H. P. Murray- Aynsley, G. Hartnett, W. Hayward, C. W. Reid, H. E. B. Watson, J. Henderson, C. P. Hugonin, J. Duncan, T. W. Adams, R. Reid, D. D. Macfarlane, W. Macfarlane, G, Jameson, T. D. Bcag, F. Waymoutk and P. H. Johnson, and Dr Levinge. A letter was received from Mr R. O. Duncan, forwarding a copy of the programme of tho Bathurst Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and stating that the classes open to trotting and pacing horses and the prizes offered at Christchurch shows did not conduce to good entries and general interest among trotting men. Tho letter was referred to the Horse Committee.
Mr D. D. Macfarlane referred to a letter ho had received from Mr Edwin Hall, asking if tho Association was in favour of a conference of Associations being hold this year. He said that the last conference had been held in 1907. It was proposed form a Roval Agricultural Society of New Zealand, which could speak authoritatively on matters of importance to the Agricultural and Pastoral Associations of the dominion. It had been thought that tbe Farmers’ Union would do tho work of the conference, but it had been found that there was room for both. A resolution was passed recommending that a conference should bo held this year. Accounts for £lB5 15s 3d were passed for payment.
