BURGESSES’ ASSOCIATIONS.
A COMBINED MEETING. A meeting of members of the various Burgesses’ Associations of Greater Christchurch was held at the Manchester Street Chambers last evening, Dr O. J. Russell presiding over an attendance of about twenty members. The secretary, Mr J. H. Nowlyn, said that the meoting had been called because it was understood that there was a desire on the part of the various Burgesses’ Associations to meet and confer regarding cortain recommendations made by them which had not been complied with. Tho chairman said that he thought it would be a good thing if all the Associations met two or three times a year to discuss reforms which it required combined effort to bring about. After a lengthy discussion, a motion recommending the City Council to acquire a quarry of its own was held over pending further information being obtained. A motion recommending that the Christchurch City Council, the Christchurch Drainage Board and the Christchurch Tramway Board should bo amalgamated into a Metropolitan Board of Works, was submitted to a special committee, which was instructed to givo the matter further consideration, and tho question of instituting municipal fish markets was also referred to a. committee. A resolution was passed urging ratepayers to place their names on the municipal roll in view of the poll on tho half-holiday question to be taken in April. ‘
