CHRISTCHURCH MEAT COMPANY.
ANNUAL REPORT. The annual meeting of the Christchurch Meat Company will be held on Tuesday, February' 23. Tho annual report of the company states that on account of tho generally unfavourable season for fattening purposes experienced throughout the whole of tho South Island, a considerable decrease has to be reported in the volume of business transacted during tho past season. The quantity of stock pub through tho various works totals 1,174,389 carcases, being a decrease of 416,293. A large sum lias again been spent in renewals and replacements to buildings, machinery and plant, tho sum of £12,024 3s 6d having been expended and written off in order to keep the works in thoroughly good order and repair. The balance at credit of profit and loss, after providing for the interim dividend already paid of £6586 3s 3d, amounts to £27,997 4s 3d, which the directors recommend should bo disposed of as follows: —To write off for depreciation on works and plant £7000; to add to reserve, making this fund £55,000, £5000; to pay a dividend of 4 per cent for the half-year ended October 31, 1908, making 8 per cent for the year, £6616 6s Id; leaving an amount to carry forward of £9380 18s 2d.
