WOOL SALES.
[Pep. Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 9. The following cablegram has been received from tho High Commissioner, dated London, February B:—The wool sales closed firm, with a good demand for all descriptions, but except for lots suitable for America, _which are id higher, the opening gain on medium and coareo qualities has been lost. Values generally are now about the same as at the December sales. America purchased freely, and tho market is uncertain, but hopeful. _ Estimated values are as follow: —Superior merino, llid to Is l}d; medium merino, 9d to Is; inferior merino, 6sd to 7id; fine cross-breds, all grades, lid to Is ljd; medium cross-breds, all grades, B]d to lid; coareo cross-breds; all grades, 6d to 9d. [Pee Peess Association.] INVERCARGILL, February 9._ The last wool sale of the present series was held to-day. ' Four thousand and four bales were offered and practically all were sold. It was generally anticipated, in view of recent northern sales, that prices would be- lower, but considering that there was less than, half tile quantity offered and that most of tho best clips had been sold, prices were fully equal to thoso of the January sale. Lower grade wools were fully id better. Tho best price was obtained for a three-bale lot of 6uper cross-bred hogget., which sold for lid. Best prices for other sorts were:—Halfbred IOJd, strong crcss-bred 9]d. Prices were fully up to last sale’s quotations. The National Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited, is m receipt of tho following cablegram from London:— “The sales closed ' firm at the December currency. The American selection was 5 per cent dearer.”
