A rumour has been current in Wellington to the effect that Mr J. A. Giiruth, Chief Veterinarian to the Government, had resigned from the service in order to take up a chair of hygiene cr veterinary surgery in 7 ' an Australian University. On being communicated with a. "Dominion" reporter Mr Giiruth denied the rumour. Mr E. W. Christmas, the Auckland artist, will leave for England soon. It is bis intention to exhibit at the principal English art exhibitions and the Paris Salon nest year. The death is announced at Nelson of Mr James Blick, a very old settler. At Ashburton on Monday evening Mr John Kaveney, lat© of Fairfield, was presented with an illuminated address and a travelling-bag by a number of his friends, who met at Mrs M'Kee's house to bid him good-bye, prior to his departure for Australia.
