AMUSEMENTS.

THEATRE ROYAL. Mr H. R. Roberts’s Company concluded its season at tho Theatre Royal on Saturday evening, producing “The Prince Chap” before, a. good audience. The play went well arrd was loudly applauded. During the evening the two Jittlo girls in the cast received bouquets. OPERA HOUSE. There was an exceptionally large attendance at the Opera House, on Saturday evening, when the programme for the current week was produced for the first time. Miss Maude Penman scored a decided success with her songs “Follow tho Girls,” and “ Tho Twilight in your Eyes,” and Kadamo’s clever perperformance on tho slack wire gained lor him an enthusiastic reception. Vaude and Varna were also very successful in their turn. Mr Boy Lloyd’s comic songs were much appreciated and Bryant’s exhibition of club-swinging was received with much applause. The Marlow sisters were successful in their Japanese sketch and serio-comic songs, and Mr Harry Edwards, a baritone singer, sang several acceptable numbers. Miss Nellie Power’s burlesque turn was exceptionally popular, and Salmon and Chester’s Irish sketch, kept the audience thoroughly amused. Mr Charles Moody gave a turn that was appreciatively received. Tho biograph pictures were humourous and bright, and the programme as a whole was decidedly attractive. It will be repeated this evening. HIS MAJESTY’S" THEATRE. Tho Royal Pictures delighted several hundred children at a matinee performance on Saturday and in the evening there was a largo audience. The films were clearly shown, and tho humourous ones were highly appreciated. Tuts evening the pictures will be again shown in the'Colosseum. ’Hie management lias made arrangements' for beating the building. RICKARDS’S VAUDEVILLE COMPANY. , This evening a combination of vaudeville artists, which, is claimed by Mr Harry Rickafds to bo the best that he has sent' to New Zealand, will commence a short season in the Theatre Royal. Tho Now Zealand tour was opened in Dunedin last week, and the company appeared each evening before exceedingly large audiences. The company contains a number of variety “stars,” who have recently made, successful appearances in Europe and America. The three Kloa Sisters have achieved very great success a,s aerial athletes, and their turn lias been a feature of tho entertainments already given by the company. The brothers Artois aro said to supply something fresh and attractive in. the way of the humorous acrobatic display that has gained .a vogue in vaudeville, and the Miles-Stavordale quintet, whose specialty is the production of voice-like music from stringed instruments, bring with them the record of many striking successes. These three sets of artists will be. supported by a number of other':, some of whom are already favourably known in Christchurch. The plan of seats for tho season is at tho Dresden.
