CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
Tlie monthly meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon, Mr A. Kaye, president, in the chair.
Tho president stated that the adjourned meeting of cornsack importers had been held, and a resolution had been passed approving of the size of sacks 48 inches by 26] inches. A letter was read from the Invercargill Chamber, stating that after full consideration it was resolved to recommend the adoption of a uniform sack of 46 inches by 25 inches. The chairman of the committee of the Willowby branch of tlie Farmers’ Union wrote, stating that anything smaller than 48 inches by 25 inches would not bo acceptable, and tlie Ashburton Farmers’ Union wrote on similar lilies. It was decided that no further action should bo taken by the committee. Mr J. S. Larke, Commissioner for Canada, wrote, thanking tho committee for "the resolution it bad passed regarding reciprocal trade, and expressing tlie hope that it would have influence with the Governments of the two dominions.
The date of the quarterly meeting of tlie Chamber was fixed for May
It was decided to recommend to the general meeting tho advisability of altering the name of the committee to “ council.” A discussion took place as to which of the two days. Empire Day and the Prince of Wales’s Birthday, should he observed as a holiday, hut no decision was arrived at. Tt was reported that the Timaru Chamber had decided to observe Empire Day.
