A VIOLENT PRISONER.

ASSAULT ON A CONSTABLE. [From Our Correspondent.] ASHBTJRTON, February 15. A man named Henry Boylan, who had behaved in a strange manner at Longbeach station yesterday, was arrested by Constable M'Lennan in the evening. On the journey to Ashburton the prisoner, who was suffering from delirium tremens, violently assaulted the constable, subsequently causing a gsg to be upset. Boylan endeavoured to escape, and, breaking the handcuffs, savagely attacked the constable with a portion of the ironwork of the wrecked °dg, inflicting a nasty wound on the nead. At the Police Court this morning, before Mr H. Davis, J.P., accused, who was charged with drunkenness and assault, pleaded not guilty, and was remanded for a week for medical attention.
