SWIMMING.

OPAWA CLUB. The Opawa Amateur Swimming Club held its fifth annual carnival in the Opawa School bath on Saturday afternoon. There was a very large attendance of spectators, and an interesting afternoon's sport was provided for them. The number of competitors in the inter-club events was large, and there was some excellent racing. P. Mason (Yaldhurst) gave an exhibition swim over 50yds. paced by H. Rich (Opawa) and J. S. Hilson (Christchurch), but his time, 31sec, was not so good as had been expected. Ho had been unwell during! the week, and was obviously out of form.
