Mararoa arrives from Wellington and leaves'on return trip. Corinna arrives from Timaru. Oamaru and Dunedin, ■ and leaves. for Wellington, New Plymouth • and Onchunga. The Federal-Houlder-Shire liner Nairnshire, . now commanded by Captain W. J. Page, who was chief , officer with the late Captain Olsen, arrived at 7.10 am. yesterday from Wellington, and was berthed at No. 7 wharf, to discharge 1100 tons of cargo from West of England ports. It is expected that she will leave hero on Wednesday for Dunedin and the Bluff, whence she is to go to Australia for Homeward loading. • The New Zealand Shipping Company’s s.s. Ruapehu is expected to return to Lyttelton bn Friday to take London cargo. She will leave for Wellington on Saturday. Is is expected that the a.e. ' Camphill, now discharging timber here;, will not leave for Timaru till to-morrow. The s.s. Cygnet is to leave for Akaroa via the Bays this afternoon. The schooner Amelia Sims is expected to leave hero to-morrow in ballast for Westport, where she will load timber for Lyttelton. The s.s. Wakatu, which arrived from Kaikoura and Wellington yesterday evening, is to leave here this evening for those ports, via Motunau and Flags. The s.s. Toroa came out of dock yesterday evening, and is expected to leave for Oamaru and Timaru to-morrow. The Union Steamship Company’s s.s. Manuka is to go into dock this morning, and is expected to come out on Thursday or Friday. The Tyser s.s. Mimiro, from New York via Australian and northern ports, arrived at 7.40 a.m. yesterday, and was moored at No. 6 wharf, to put out 400 tons of cargo. The vessel is commanded by Captain A. H. Kemp, and is to proceed from Lyttelton to Dunedin to finish discharging. She is exfeoted to leave here about 11 a.m. to-day. ’rom Dunedin she will probably go to Sydney or Brisbane to load for Home. Captain C. M. Renaut is now master of the s.s. Botoiti, as Captain Robertson is still on sick leave. Mr P. J. Hickey, chief engineer of ihe s.s. Corinna, has been promoted to chief en- . gineer of the s.s. Rotoiti. Mr Melville, second engineer of the Corinna,* will act as chief engineer of that vessel. | Mr P. Gibbons, late of Lyttelton, Joined the steamer Defender as second mate on Fri- ,. day. Captain F. N. Naylor, of the s.s. Rosamond, has been granted holiday leave-, and Captain J. F. Crawford has been given command of that vessel. Mr H. Swan, chief' engineer of the a.s. Poherua, has transferred to the s.s. Moura in a similar capacity, in place of Mr W, B. Morgan, who has come ashore. Mr J. Cable, late second engineer of the *.«. Waikare, has been promoted to chief of the as.' Poherua. Captain Spinks, who has commanded several of the Union Company’s steamers, including the Mokoia, when she picked up the Monowai on the occasion of her first breakdown, has resigned the position of chief surveyor of the Sydney Underwriters’ Association, to enter into business with Captain J. V. Hall.- His successor will be Captain Cuthbert. The first of the New York to New Zea- .. land direct steamers, run under the auspices bf the Federal-Houlder-Shire Line, is the Lord Stanley, which left New York on September 20, and is due in Wellington on October 28. She will be followed by' the New Orleans, leaving New York on October 30 for Auckland direct. The “ New Zealand Times ’’ states that Mr Lidiard, who went to Auckland as mate of the s.s. Badon-Powell, has returned to Wellington. He reports that since the vessel has been fitted with another hold she can carry an extra forty-four tons of. coal, bringing her capacity up to between 220 and 230 tons. MELBOURNE, October 14. The Psyche, bound, from Sydney to Adelaide, experienced a rough passage, and pub in at Portland to repair her condenser. One of the engineers fell down in the engineroom, and injured his head severely. During tire delirium which followed, ho cut his throat from ear to ear. Tho wound was not fatal, and the patient is in a fair way to recovery.
