LABOUR DAY.

THE HOLIDAY PROGRAMME,

The programme of amusements for to-day's holiday covers a wide field, and many attractive entertainments have been arranged. The annual Trades and Labour picnic will be held at Rangiora, and at Kaiapoi a sports meeting will be held. Ashburton will make holiday with a baud contest, and Amberley will hold its annual horse show. The New Brighton Trotting Club - will continue its race meeting at the New Brighton racecourse. The boating seaeon, will be opened at 2.30 by the Mayor (Mr G. Paying). The Christ’s College annual sports will he held, beginning at 9.30 a.m., and the Christchurch Bowling Club will commence its season. At Wainoni Park there will be a programme of novel entertainments.

In tlia evening Montgomery's Entertainers at the'Theatre Royal, and Fuller’s Entertainers at .the Opera House, .will provide amusement.

A close holiday will he observed at Lyttelton to-day. All goods traffic will be suspended, and the ‘ ! ferry ” steamer for Wellington will be the only Union Company’s boat to leave. The s.s. John Anderson will run to Diamond Harbour and Purau during * the day) and the steamers Purau and Canterbury will make trips to Governor’s Bay. The Lyttelton Naval Artillery will hold their annual picnic at Purau.
