WAIAU DISTRICT SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION.

Tho monthly meeting of the Waia-u I District Settlers' Association was held on Saturday. Lieutenant-Colonel Chaffey in the chair. Mr A. W. Rutherford, M.H.R., sent forward a letter from tko Actiug-Pcetmaster-Ger.eral stating that there was no necessity fo-f placing a barometer at the Waiau Pest Office, and that it was a matter entirely for the decision of the Marine Department. Mr Rutherford also wrote stating that lie liaa arranged for an interview with the Premier by a deputation in reference to railway extension, to take place on Monday July 29. Tt was decided to communicate with tho Rotherham Residents' Association and the Young New Zealar.ders' Land Settlement Association of Kaikoura' on the matter. The small birds' nuisance was discussed. Councillors Chaffey and Fitzpatrick stated that the County Council would supply poisoned grain to settlers. It was decided to obtain, a quantity of the grain for distribution with a view to .making a united, effort in checking the prist. Mr Goakley offered to take charge of the grain and to deliver it to settlers on application. Mr <x. W. Forbes-, honorary secretary, of the Cheviot County Settlers' Association, wrote give some valuable information respecting the establishment of an autumn show in the district. Tt wfls.,decided to circularise the surrounding districts with, a view of obtaining members and to hold a general meeting of those interested on Saturday August 31, to fix the annual (subscription and elect officers. and committees. Mr "YV. 0. Richards moved, in pursuance of -notice given at the previous meeting : — C! That an agricultural and pastoral branch be added to the platform of the Association for the purpose of promoting an annual show of stock, produce, etc, the branch to be constituted with a separate membership roll, subscriptions and accounts." The motion was sec-ended by Mr W. B reckon and carried unanimously.
